Railway Heritage Landscape

The 19th Century transformed Llandovery, bringing the railway and a sporting legacy that continues today.

The Cynghordy Viaduct

Just north of the town lies an engineering marvel. The Cynghordy Viaduct is a graceful, curved stone bridge of 18 arches that carries the Heart of Wales Line across the valley. Completed in 1868, it is one of the most photographed railway structures in the UK.

The Eton of Wales

As you enter the town, you will see the grand neo-Gothic buildings of Llandovery College, founded in 1847. Unlike other schools of the time, it was built to champion the Welsh language and culture.

It is also a rugby factory. As a founding member of the Welsh Rugby Union, the college has produced over 50 international players—more than any other school in Wales. It is the reason our local rugby club, "The Drovers," punches so far above its weight.
