Hay Festival of Literature & Arts

Dates: May 21 – 31, 2026
Location: Hay-on-Wye (50 mins drive).

Described as "The Woodstock of the mind," this is one of the world’s great cultural gatherings. The festival site is a temporary village. Entry to the site is free, meaning you can browse the massive bookshop and soak up the atmosphere without spending a penny. You only pay for the specific talks you wish to attend.

Llandeilo Literature Festival (Gŵyl Lên Llandeilo)

Dates: April 24 – 26, 2026
Location: Llandeilo (15 mins drive).

If Hay is the global stage, Llandeilo is the intimate salon. Venues are scattered throughout the town’s historic buildings. The programme emphasizes Welsh identity, nature writing, and "Music Fest" sessions that blend folk performance with storytelling.
