Pedals, Pints, and Pavarotti: Summer Highlights Near Llandovery
Welcome to Brecon Oak. As the Welsh summer hits its stride, the landscape surrounding our luxury retreat transforms into a hub of activity. Whether you are looking for an adrenaline-fuelled cycle through the Cambrian Mountains or a sophisticated evening of classical music, the transition from June to July 2026 offers a diverse palette of experiences.
Here are four hand-picked events happening right on our doorstep over the next few weeks.
1. The Summer Cider Cycle (Llanwrtyd Wells)
Date: Saturday, 27 June 2026
Location: Llanwrtyd Wells, LD5 4RW
Distance from SA20 0RU: 12 miles (approx. 20-minute drive)
For those who enjoy a bit of eccentricity with their exercise, the Summer Cider Cycle is a local favourite. Starting in the UK’s smallest town, Llanwrtyd Wells, this event invites cyclists to navigate the ruggedly beautiful bridleways and forest tracks of the Cambrian Mountains.
What makes it unique? The 'checkpoints' along the route are stocked with locally produced traditional ciders and perries. You can choose between a 14-mile or 24-mile course. If you aren't a cyclist, the atmosphere in the town's square is fantastic, with plenty of local food stalls and a true community spirit.
2. The Llandovery Artisan & Producers Market
Date: Saturday, 4 July 2026
Location: Market Square, Llandovery, SA20 0AA
Distance from SA20 0RU: 0.8 miles (approx. 2-minute drive or a pleasant 15-minute walk)
Celebrate the start of July by supporting the finest makers in Carmarthenshire. This month’s market is set to be a bumper edition, focusing on 'Summer Harvest' flavours. Expect to find organic Towy Valley strawberries, locally crafted sheep’s milk cheeses, and hand-thrown ceramics from local potters.
It is the perfect opportunity to stock the pantry at Brecon Oak with fresh, high-quality Welsh ingredients for a summer evening barbecue on the terrace.
3. Llandeilo Festival of Music: The Opening Gala
Date: Sunday, 5 July 2026
Location: St Teilo's Church, Llandeilo, SA19 6BH
Distance from SA20 0RU: 12.5 miles (approx. 20-minute drive)
The prestigious Llandeilo Festival of Music kicks off its 2026 season in early July. This internationally acclaimed festival brings world-class musicians to the heart of rural Wales. The opening gala typically features a mix of chamber music and vocal performances in the stunning acoustic setting of St Teilo’s Church.
If you appreciate classical music, this is an unmissable evening. We recommend booking a table at one of Llandeilo’s boutique bistros for an early dinner before the performance begins.
