Man vs Horse Marathon 2026

It started in 1980 with a pub argument: over a long distance, could a man beat a horse? To find out, you need to head to Llanwrtyd Wells, just 15 minutes from Brecon Oak.

The Race

Despite the name, the course is approximately 22 miles (35km), traversing road, forestry tracks, open moorland, and deep river crossings. Beating the horse is rare—it has only happened a handful of times in history. The horses gain time on the uphills, while you must use your agility to catch them on the steep, technical descents.

Accommodation Tip: Llanwrtyd Wells is very small and books out years in advance. Llandovery is the primary overflow hub for this event, offering a short, easy commute to the start line.
