Carreg Cennen Castle
If Llandovery Castle is about community and Dinefwr is about power, Carreg Cennen is purely about drama. Located 25-30 minutes south-west of Llandovery, this fortress is perched on a sheer 300-foot limestone cliff. It is arguably the most photogenic castle in Wales, visible for miles around.
The Cave
The castle’s most unique feature—and a highlight for adventurous children—is the natural cave that runs deep into the bedrock beneath the fortress.
You can rent torches from the tea room (or bring your own) to explore this damp, dark passage. It is a thrilling, atmospheric experience that sets Carreg Cennen apart from any other castle in the region.
After exploring, enjoy a warm drink and a cake at the farm shop and cafe at the base of the hill.
