Cwm Rhaeadr: The Valley of the Waterfall
Located 20 minutes north of Llandovery near the village of Cilycwm, Cwm Rhaeadr is a jewel in the Forestry England crown. Whether you are a hiker, a mountain biker, or just looking for a picnic spot, this hidden valley is spectacular.
The Waterfall Walk
This is the main attraction for walkers. It is a 2.6-mile (4.2km) trail that climbs steeply through the pine forest. Your reward is arriving at the base of the highest waterfall in Carmarthenshire. The views from the top, looking back over the valley, are worth every step of the climb.
Accessible Trail
Unusually for such rugged terrain, Cwm Rhaeadr features a superb Accessible Trail. This 0.9-mile route is suitable for rugged wheelchairs and buggies, leading you through the lower forest to serene ponds and boardwalks. It ensures everyone can enjoy the beauty of the woods.
Mountain Biking
For the adrenaline seekers, Cwm Rhaeadr is famous for its Red Grade MTB Trail. Though only 6.7km long, it is intense. It features a rocky ridge descent that rivals the best in the UK for technical difficulty—a must-ride for experienced mountain bikers.
