Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Located in Pumsaint, just 15 minutes west of Llandovery, Dolaucothi offers a unique glimpse into the ancient past. These are the only known Roman gold mines in the entire United Kingdom.

Nearly 2,000 years ago, the Romans discovered gold here. They reshaped the landscape using massive tanks and aqueducts for "hushing" (hydraulic mining), demonstrating the immense effort the Empire invested in this remote frontier.
